Water Pipe Maintenance

Water pipes that freeze and then burst can cause a lot of damages. Both plastic and copper pipes may burst when water inside the pipes freezes in the wintertime. By taking the following precautions before the winter season, you can save yourself a lot of money and trouble:

bulletinsulate exposed pipes
bulletopen cabinet doors to allow warm air to get to pipes
bulletlet hot and cold water trickle overnight
bulletwrap pipes with heat tape
bulletseal leaks that allow cold air inside, near where pipes are located
bulletdisconnect garden hoses and use an indoor valve to shut off and drain water from pipes leading to outside faucets
bulletkeep your heat set higher than 55 degrees if you must be away
